hollywood night at blush

INTENTION OF INTENT 208 THEME 1 EVENTS

Theme:-                                                   EVENTS
Title of the theme:-                                  HOLLYWOOD

Intentions/purpose of the photography to be undertaken

Improve my photography skills.
Learn how to use my camera in low light, composition, frames, focal point, setting to my location, perspective properly and not using flash and control light exposure.

Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others)

I'm a very outgoing guy and like night life, events and festivals. I love an atmosphere, the joy and fun people have in a busy place, showing this is the best way to get the impact i want and i love taking photos of this. When I'm taking photos of venues and events people enjoyed you can see what there lives are like and share their moment in the photos. When taking photos you can make it as fun as you want and capturing that joy and joining in with it is the best way to get a great picture.

The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why

i be using my nikon d3000 with a AF- Nikkor 18-55mm lens as this is the only camera i got at this moment

Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message

i be using the disco lights and lasers to give my theme its look and angle shoots with give it a more action pack to it by being higher or lower of what I'm focusing on. getting some blurred vision in the shoot will give movement and speed of the event . capturing peoples face expressions and movement will give the impact of fun , joy and emotions within the photo.

How light quality can be used to help convey the visual message

the location is all dark, with fog machines, light, lasers and lots of people moving and jumping around so i be not using any flash and putting my shutter speed slower and my ISO to it highest to capture more of the ambient light and the disco light. i be changing the f stop for different light situations and position myself in the areas where the light is behind me to help pick up detail on people.

Safety considerations

1) Be aware of the environment around you.

2) Ask people permission to take there photo before hand to prevent confusion and aggravation of taking there photo

3) making sure there no objects or obstruction our moved away to avoid tripping or fulling over while taking photos

4) making sure of people around you as most are infuclust of acholol and not knowing what there doing.

BLUSH
blush a mixture of people and culture, i take photos at blush quite a lot and this was a great place to try out my new way of photography. the location was all dark, with fog machines, light, lasers and lots of people moving and jumping around, i had to know what settings i need it at the right time and the right angle to get the perfect shoot. my main purpose to catch all the lighting and keep the darkness in the background and have enough light on what I'm focusing on including capturing the fun of it all. this is a hard task but loved every min, my intention is to capture night life and event without losing the mood and a night club by putting the flash on so playing with the ISO first then shutter speed was my main task to get right then finding what will work best together. these our some of my best pictures i taken that night and will explain what i done and what was my intention to take that shoot and what i wanted from it .

this is were i wanted to set my settings first before any customers came in. first i set the ISO now i started on 200 and it came out black you couldn't see anything,so i worked up till i was happy how it came out. as the venue was really dark the only ISO was best is the highest setting hi 1, setting above 1600 was the best one to use. then i started setting the shutter speed now i wanted to get enough light in for the picture but not blur the picture, now i thought of that if i take photo of things that not moving, i can try and keep the camera steady, it will come out right. i tried the setting at 1/10 and was getting to bright and glarey so i put it to 1/100 but it was too dark. i found the right settings for the right setup i was using as in the location i was in was different every time i shoot a photo.

now as you can see i wanted to see what happens when i shorten the shutter hole and get less light in. the photo was darker but makes the room more longer, you could still see all the colours and was fascinated with the laser spots around the room which makes it look unusual and different.

with this one i put the f stop a little bit wider to capture more of the lights, which help give more a definition of the shapes and objects within the room. including giving more shadow and shade will help give texture and detail within the room. i loved how the colour lights give that mood of the room and not using the flash which will make the shot look bad, it will take the effect off and make the room plain and dull.

with this picture i wanted to keep the focus on the old couple so to get the best effect i waited for the lights to be stable and wanted the blue mood effect. as this give it a slowed, calm and romantic look even if the music was dance. i wanted to make the background darker do putting the f stop to 10 help the focus on the couple and darken the back. i loved how the sequin dress sparkles with the lights, it just captures your eye on the picture. i wanted to make it feel that there movement with the picture even if it still, so i angle the photo to the side and make you move with it.

now in this picture he loved seeing his self in the mirror and was dancing in front of it. i wanted to see if i could capture this by capturing him and the reflection in the mirror and keep it clear to see him. i change the f stop to be more open so it does capture the image in the mirror and including he was moving quite a lot , the slight blur give that impact of him moving and dancing. again wanted the focus point to be him and the mirror but have notice that you focus on him first as he in front then the mirror which work well. it give you the feeling of fun and proudness of himself.

REAR flash
now this one i tried it without the flash and was drowned by the light behind them and you couldn't see them, so decided to try to see what it like with the flash on and it help capture them in the door way. the door is a clever to get them as it in a way 1 it quashed them together for the photo and 2, it frame them in the photos and you can see the posters in the background to tell you whats going on. i wanted to capture there faces, as it was just quick stop to take the picture and nearly falling over each other to get into the photo. doing this make it look fun and not planned which is the best effect of capturing people expressions.

i was taking photos of my partner and was noticing the red light flashing on him. it was on his shoulder at first so i wanted to capture it on him so i waited for the right moment till it flashed on him. when i tuck the image, you couldn't see him and it didn't look right so i ask him to position his self in the red spot and it was a great shot as it was a great focus of him and made everything around him dark except him inside the red dot. the image could of been better if i was more steady with the camera

this was done with pure luck, Patience and time to get it right as the settings of the shutter was on very slow, so i knew if if i was shaking, it would come out very blurred and distorted. i wanted to capture there true colour and details in this picture but i wanted to capture some of there movement so you can see they moving to get there picture taken which was a good effect. i position myself on a table to steady it as much as i can and then hold my breath to get this image.

as blush have lots of posers, i had lots of people to shot and take lots of images till i get the right one i like. this one is one of my friend in drag and he posed for me as the Chicago girl. i wanted to get this image for him and taken his pose by getting him on the stage and i position myself lower than him to get looking up and high effect.it gives that up right proud pose look and it look pretty good. the colours was great to get the same theme from the film and i wanted to get this for him.

in this image i wanted to capture the lasers that was flashing through the fog machine mist, it was amazing the effect that you get with light and capturing it was quite difficult to do, so i had to take several shoots till i got the right one.

these were taken with the stag light on so i had to put the f stop on a lower opening to not get to much glare and not make it to bright.

that night was a fantastic night and capturing all the colours, lights, the mood and shapes of the event was a challenge but getting the right angle and setting yourself in the right place help with using the lights to  give me without using the flash was great including it gives its theme and stuning night life to it.
after a couple of shots i know what worked best and keeping the camrea very still help not blur the main point of the image. the colours was vibret and bright which was great and having some of the image was blured to give movement and mood of the photo. the things i like to improve is when i take photos of people wanting a posing picture i need something to help give light on just them so they are there normal colour and the back ground to keep with the night life with all colours of the lights and not be taken over by the flash. this will be my next task and will be looking into more of moving image by slowering the shutterspeed down.

  1. Hi
You have produced alot of work and been very busy. The data you have included is important and shows an understanding of technique.
More research required to show where your influences lie.
Reportage photography along with fashion photographers like david lacapelle would need to be included in your research along with others, we can then compare your work to theirs to see what areas can be improved.

  2. If you look at these images and your latest ones you will see how they are more technical and more creative in the use of kit, flash and ambient light.
This shows that the research and practical work you have done has improved your photography to a more professional level.
