bullit student night

INTENTION OF INTENT 208 THEME 2 EVENTS

Theme:-                                                   EVENTS
Title of the theme:-                                  student night

Intentions/purpose of the photography to be undertaken

Improve my photography skills.
Learn how to use my camera in low light, composition, frames, focal point, setting to my location, perspective properly and using flash only if needed and controlling the exposure on the flash and control exposure with the light around the area .

Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others)

I'm a very outgoing guy and like night life, events and festivals. I love an atmosphere, the joy and fun people have in a busy place, showing this is the best way to get the impact i want and i love taking photos of this. When I'm taking photos of venues and events people enjoyed you can see what there lives are like and share their moment in the photos. When taking photos you can make it as fun as you want and capturing that joy and joining in with it is the best way to get a great picture.

The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why

i be using my nikon d3000 with a AF- Nikkor 18-55mm lens as this is the only camera i got at this moment

Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message

i be using the disco lights and lasers to give my theme its look and angle shoots with give it a more action pack to it by being higher or lower of what I'm focusing on. getting some blurred vision in the shoot will give movement and speed of the event . capturing peoples face expressions and movement will give the impact of fun , joy and emotions within the photo.

How light quality can be used to help convey the visual message

the location is completely dark with very little disco light, lasers and lots of people moving and jumping around so i be only use flash if location is completely dark and putting my shutter speed slower and my ISO to it highest to capture more of the ambient light and the disco light. i be changing the f stop for different light situations and position myself in the areas where the light is behind me to help pick up detail on people.

Safety considerations

1) Be aware of the environment around you.

2) Ask people permission to take there photo before hand to prevent confusion and aggravation of taking there photo

3) making sure there no objects or obstruction our moved away to avoid tripping or fulling over while taking photos

4) making sure of people around you as most are infuclust of acholol and not knowing what there doing.

BULLET
Bullet was a very busy club with loads of people with load of personalities and different active people. it was under 18 night so the atmosheive so loud and wild, i had take take loads of snaps to get the right one. including in the club was very dark with very little lighting not compere to my last event in did at blush. this is give me the opportunities to play with my built in flash as i didn't have a flash to use yet but give me the chance to practice my effect i wanted before i upgrade  to a better accorieres for my camera. the night was very interesting, as i said the place was full of different people so there was no theme or organisation with taking the photos and the models wasn't very cooperative so every photo counts.

when looking into Eric hamlinton work he wanted to capture the colours and people impressions into his work. i wanted to capture this myself and getting the right lighting is assetroual to get this. using the lights and combinding my flash, i manged to get a great detail without drowning it out with the brightness that my flash sometimes covers and by getting this i found a setting on my camera that will help by using exposure setting and the flash comp. i have notice that if i lower both setting it balances the light out and darkens it without making to dark that you cant see the people in the picture.

as the place is completely dark there some places that using the flash is not useful. as with this piture using the flash make it look plain not had no impact i wanted. so switching it off and taking the shoot just at the right time when the lights our facing me so this then shines on the people and the bars give a dimenion  of depth and shape of the club, giving it a smooth feeling of the theme. the two colours red and blue was a great pattern that relaxed off the mirror of the end of the room that shoew the crowd in the background then the blue light give the edge of the people at the front, it work wounderful together.

in this one there was a area were it was lighten up nicely in the corner and i have notice that the mirror in the corner was catching quite well with the crowd i wantedcthe capture the art side of it and would love to get it alittle more clearer but only using my built in flash would only make it to bright and putting the iso back done would only make it to darker. to improve this i would get my self a seprate flash and use a flash defuser would help me keep it bright enough while putting the iso to around 200 to clear the image up.

this was a great shoot by capturing all the colours again which taken about 6 shots intil i found the right one including keeping myself steady so it doesnt blur up. i love how the decs lights and it shine out and capturing the lab top was great. the green swirls of the light in the corner was a great effect and shade of lights that glows on people and objest give a good detail in this picture.

with david work capturing lights was a great shoot and i wanted to do this myself and capturing the mist which was at the right side was a great effect of a great impact of fun and joy with the people in the club. this photo was a great portrait picture these people and i wanted to take them without making them look to dark so balancing the lights and the flash is esstrual with this shot.

with both images capturing there faces is the main fact i wanted to focus on by  capturing there colour, complexion while making the background more darker so the main focus is them.

again its all in the main focus on the people and then darken the back ground, with david work this is the impact he wanted and showing all imperation of the night life with in the picture as again seen in the picture below.

With the next couple i combine this tecnect to see how it came out and was a great success with them and i was pleased how they come out and combinding these was a great way to get what i wanted in my photos.

now i wanted to play with my iso setting to see how much difference between a high iso to a low one looks with using this massive lighting that the club had in there entrance hall.

ISO 600

ISO 300

ISO hi 1

with the 3 pictures you can see the difference between the lighting, the texture and graning of the image that you get when using a hi ISO. David has surgested to use ISO 200 when using a flash with a difuser. with using the difuser it stops the light going straight forward which lightens the background which doesnt give the main focus of the people and blinds out the lights in the club and doesnt get the theme you want. with the difuser, the light is broken up and spreaded to the side which lighten the people up but keeps the back dark which give there main focus.

with these final picture again combinding my flash, ISO and the light around me to get what i wanted and with these photos i wanted to warm it up abit so i have adjusted the contrast and colour to get that winter warm by making the white light more yellow and orange look and tanning people faces giving it more colour to them has gave that touch i wanted. as i noticed with david work, he wanted to play with colour and he said more colour the better , getting people with different colours and putting the contrast higher sharpens it up and catches your eye more with every patterns and colours that makes you feel brighter and happier, a warm feeling within these pictures.

I have chosen these photos because it represents the quality im looking for when using night photography.
After researching eric hamlintons photography he has said when taking photos in a nightlife environment you must capture not only the expressions of people but the movement and sound of the area.
With the photos i have captured and then made a final choice on i beleive i have shown how the camera can capture the essence, movement and sound that surrounds the subjects in the photograph.

  1. Hi
A good series of images and show you have the technical skills, which are improving all the time.
Dont loose site of the fact you will need to do a volume of research alongside this of a variety of fashion and portrait photographers, this will inform and inspire what you produce as long as you critically analyse their work using the research handout I gave you.
