funfairs at night (controling light in dark areas)

In these photos i wanted to experiment on the shutter speed and light around me the iso has stayed the same. with the images i like to work on, i like to use the lights around me without drowning it out with a flash so finding out which is best setting on the speed of the shutter will be my project in these images. this is swadlincote lights 2010 and the weather is very cold.

HEALTH AND SAFETY
with health and safety i be wearing my hicking boots so i dont slip as when i using my camrea i wont be seeing where my feet is. i made sure my camrea secured to me so if i get knocked over by a anyone i wont drop it.

first i wanted to st the ISO so i set it to hi 1 as i wont be using my flash and my f stop on 5.6 the widest to capture all the light in the area. i be labeling the shutter speeds on the images that i done and some of them explaining why i tuck that image.

with the first coulpe of images i wanted to see what affect it will give when the ride is bright and its moving. with the lights are very bright on this ride i have notice 1/20 is a slower shutter so that more light goes in making the image more brighter and blury. then as you can see when i speed the shutter up it begin the be sharper and less brighter on the ride.

now with the ghost train ride there is a lot of smoke which looks impressive and the lomimus green light give it a purfect effect of the scary gloomy ride i wanted to capture this so again with the shutter speed i have notice slower the speed more chance of capturing the fog which is very fantasic mood and effect thats help in this image.

next one is the fun house, now with the fun house i wanted to make it bright and more colourful to give it that effect of eye catching fun. a fun looking for younger eyes to see and gaze on,the shapes and colours is very detail and i didnt want to lose it by bluring the image up and losing the patterns and shape in there. so having a very steady hand is needed to get what i wanted and capturing at the right time as the lights change is important too.

now this one i wanted to experimaent on effects of flying lights ! its allways amazed me on the beuity how they done it so i tried it out my self with using this ride. i prosition myself on a fence as i havnt got a tripod to steady myself then i adjusted the camera that you can see the ride so it centerd. when i was happy i waited till the ride started up then i click and i tried different ones to see the effect and it was a success i was amazed how wonderful it came out and i tried different speed to see the effect it done.

next ones i wanted to see if i could make the rides more clearer and sharper by lowering the ISO to 100 but without making it to dark, now i tried this in a night club eviroment and notice it was not great as the image was to dark. with these ones, the rides was brighter and every part was lighten up with leds all over,so i knew that this could still work if i prosition myself in the right place. i wanted to capture the shde and shadows too which gave alot of detail and texture im the image that work wonders for me and it was alot sharper on the images.

the lasts ones, i combinding what i have learnt and seen what work best to get the effect i wanted of the funfair. with controling the light around me was a task that i thought it was difficult to do but have now manage to find the right combernation to couter the problems of blurring and grainy in the images. i love capturing abient light in my images and acheiving this is what i wanted in my photography.

at the end of my photo session with the funfair i really enjoy capturing the fun, the colours from the lights and the mood of being there is what i wanted. i feel that my main skill in photography is using the lights around me and i be using this method on my final images.

  1. Hi
A fabulous series of images which really convey the excitement and action of the funfare. These images are possible to use without cropping as we discussed, but dont rule out that some of them may benefit from this.
Short list the images you have taken for after xmas so we can focus down onto the final selections.
